Privacy policy.

This policy describes what SmokeLess stores on your device, the anonymous usage data it sends, the permissions it may ask for, and how to remove your data.

Accounts

SmokeLess does not require an account. You are not asked for a name, an email address or any other personal detail.

Data stored on your device

Your bedtime schedule, plan length, start date and preferences (reminder level, reminder sound, currency display). These are saved in the app's local storage on your iPhone.
Your night log: when you tapped "Log my last cigarette" and your answers to the morning check-in, along with what you wrote under what you'll do instead and why.
Pack price data is bundled with the app and read locally to estimate savings. Your region is read from device settings and is not transmitted anywhere.

If iCloud is on for SmokeLess, your plan and night log are also saved to your iCloud account so they come back on a new iPhone. Apple's privacy terms apply to iCloud; you can turn it off for SmokeLess in Settings > your name > iCloud.

Deleting the app deletes the data on your iPhone. If you use iCloud device backup, Apple may include the app's local data in your encrypted backup under Apple's own privacy terms.

Usage analytics

SmokeLess sends anonymous usage events to PostHog, an analytics service, using its EU data region. The events record which onboarding steps were viewed, when a plan was started, when the app was opened or closed, and when features were used: logging your last cigarette (and whether that was before or after the cutoff), answering the morning check-in (kept, close or missed), adjusting your plan, or sharing your progress. They also include the app version, iOS version and device model.

Each install gets a random identifier so events from the same phone can be counted together. It is not linked to your name, your Apple Account, your contacts or any other app, and it is not used to track you across apps or websites. IP addresses are not stored, and no location is derived from them.

Analytics never include Apple Health data, the text you type, your bedtimes or the times you smoked. The data is used only to understand how the app is used and improve it. It is not sold, shared with advertisers or used for advertising. Because events cannot be linked back to you, we are unable to find or delete a particular person's events; deleting the app stops them.

You can turn this off at any time in the app: Plan settings > Privacy > Share anonymous usage data. Nothing is sent while it is off.

Apple Health

If you choose to connect Apple Health, SmokeLess requests read-only access to sleep analysis in order to draw your recent nights on the dashboard. The app never writes to Health, never shares Health data with anyone, and never uses it for advertising or marketing. Health data is read when the dashboard is shown and is not copied to any other store. You can revoke access at any time in the Health app under Sharing > Apps.

Notifications and Live Activities

Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. Live Activities are started on-device.

Links to third parties

The app sends anonymous usage events to PostHog as described above. The app and this website link to PubMed, PubMed Central, DOI.org and Apple's developer documentation. Those sites have their own privacy policies. This website loads fonts from Google Fonts; Google's privacy policy applies to that request.

Children

SmokeLess is intended for adults who smoke. It is not directed at children.

Changes

If a future version changes how the app handles data, this policy will be updated before that version ships.
